I have hundreds of freaking sewing patterns. I'm a total sucker for those fabric store pattern sales, I live within walking distance of two fabulous fabric stores in town, and I have like 4 years of old Burda World of Fashions archived. It's a good thing those local fabric stores have small apparel selections. Otherwise I'd have a giant closetful of fabric stash as well. And we rent. It's bad-enough carting all of those patterns from place to place. Fabric would make it worse!
So I need to have a sewing plan of sorts. More like a wardrobe plan because, let's face it, maybe it's time to start dressing like a grownup. A well-dressed, put-together grownup. When you're just over six-feet tall and detest the time spent attempting to find suitable clothing at the mall, this becomes a challenge.
I think I'll start around an item I already have in my wardrobe. I have a pair of these black stretch pants from the Gap. They're maternity and mine have the regular long inseam, but maybe they look about the same on me as they do on the model. (damn height). I still have quite a few pounds to lose, and, lucky me, all of my weight is on my belly. I can get away with some maternity styles for a little while longer.
Also thank you very much, Gap, for discontinuing those pants. Maybe I can sew a slim-fitting pant of a similar style.
Where to go after that? Back when I was a size 12-14 (oh, about 45 lbs ago) I liked the fit of these American Apparel t-shirts. Now, the XL is too small on me and the 2XL is too big and boxy.
It would be nice to have some blouses. I have broad shoulders and a little busty, so I've rarely found button-down women's shirts off-the-rack. I do like this and this, even though those prices are way out of my budget. (Oh yes, the sizing too).
Skirts too. A simple straight skirt like this, or maybe a swingier skirt like this or this? So many ideas! Perhaps it's time to start a pinboard!
